The SME Knowledge Network based at Bradford University School of Management has been around for 8 years now. The Network provides business support services for learning and development to help business and social enterprises overcome barriers to growth and survival and to realise business opportunities at hand. At the heart of the Network is and an academic evidence base of what works in helping SMEs and Social Enterprise -styles methodologies and combination of interventions, to provide rounded solutions to business needs, at any stage of business or product lifecycle.
We recognise that no issue stands alone. It may need to be tackled on a number of fronts, with a number of different methodologies, whatever the starting point. The future may not be about rigid plans but more about the style and substance of organisational behaviours that build a capability to react to emergent opportunities. Businesses can access either a single or a range of services and may develop a portfolio of interventions, which we call a 'Learning and Development Pathway.'
